Exhibtions, Prizes etc.

Congratulations to one of Helfa Gelf’s coordinator’s, Iwan G. Williams. He won 2nd place in RCA’s “Young Wales” visual arts exhibtion and competition this year, with rather odd short film “Pen Cariad”. Drinks all round, then, Iwan?

I heard that Dave Makin has just won a prestigious prize in Italy for one onf his fractals. Don’t know any more details though - does anyhone else?

  2. Marcus D.:

Yea, I saw that film in Conwy. Didn’t realise it had any connection with Helfa Gelf. It was a little wierd but very funny. They hadn’t got the subtitles working when I saw it, so all rather surreal. This guy wandering around with a ‘protruberance’ on his head and having strange ‘romantic’ encounters in Llanrwst. Should this man be trusted with Helfa Gelf?

  3. The Ink Well (Julia Savage):

Marcus, is that the exhibition at the RCA? Is it still on?

  4. Helfa Gelf:

The Young Wales exhibition is on at RCA, Conwy until 2nd July.

Just like all the lovely young women in Llanrwst, all of them are beautiful people, the belles of the earth, reproducing for the great future of Wales.,

  6. Helfa Gelf:

    Calm down, now.

  7. David Makin:

Hi all - I waited for the winning/chosen images to be available online :-)
My image “Starfruit” was chosen as one of the winners of the ICM 2006 Mandelbrot contest.
The International Congress of Mathermaticians is being held in Madrid Spain (not Italy) later this year and the contest was launched as a tribute to Benoit Mandelbrot (one of the speakers).
The chosen images can be seen here:

I don’t understand the clues at all.
Please can you solve just one to give an idea of how they work.
Cryptic? Fine, but they are really obtuse.

  9. Keith:

    Dana,
as a little aid, someone called Jonathan left a comment on this site - click on his name, it may help.

  10. Karen:

    Hi Dana.

Just play around with the words and try using Google - I’ve got a few cracked now, just wish it was May so easier to visit the artists!

  11. David Makin:

Lowlander cheers out of sorts artist. Illusion made his name.

  14. June Williams:

Are the five rings burried alltogether or are there five different places?

  15. Helfa Gelf:

June - all the rings are together in one ‘treasure chest’.
