Helfa Gelf is a new annual ‘open studios’ event of visual artists and crafts people in county Conwy, North Wales.
For a week or so every year you can peek ‘behind the scenes’ right into the heart of creativity - the artists’ studio. This is the space where their inspirational creative juices are transformed into the arts and crafts you normally only find in sterile shops and galleries. Seeing an artist in action, chatting over a cup tea amongst the paint, clay and saw-dust gives you a real insight into the artistic process.
We think Conwy is an overlooked gem for the visual arts and crafts in Wales, with loads of artists and makers beavering away up mountain tracks and sea-side cul-de-sacs. And there are great galleries and other innovative arts projects resident here too. Helfa Gelf is here to showcase it all to the world!
In the future, Helfa Gelf may also develop other activities which champion North Wales’ artists and makers, break down barriers between artists and the public and generally make everyone happy bunnies.
Helfa Gelf is organised by a voluntary committee of local artists and makers. If you’d like to get involved, get in touch!
